In October of 2010, my co-worker and friend lost her husband in a car accident. She had two young children at the time and she was both devastated and overwhelmed. Along with offering to help her at home and with her children, I wrote this letter of condolence.

Dear Fran,

I’m writing to express my deepest sympathies and sorrow of the loss of your dear husband Michael. Ryan was a great man, husband, and father and his loss is truly a tragedy. I had the honor of meeting him on several occasions and saw what a bright, positive, and loving person he was.

Through his work as a counselor, Ryan changed many lives and touched many hearts. He will always be remembered for the ways that he helped others.

I hope this letter is able to bring you some comfort during such a difficult time. If there is anything I can do to help you and your children through this time of sorrow and grieving please do not hesitate to ask. You and your family will continue to be in my thoughts.
