Loss of a Pet, A Cherished Family Member

Last year, my sister in law lost her dog, Wilson. While that may not be a big deal for some, she had raised him from a pup. She has no children - so Wilson had become her child. When he died, she was lost, and I wrote this condolence letter to her within a card

Jenn,

I'm so sorry to hear about Wilson. I know you're hurting, and I won't pretend to know what that feels like. I've never lost one of my own children, and I know that's exactly what he was for you.

You were such a great mom, and I have to take heart that God entrusted him to you for a reason... because He knew that you would stay up with him when he was sick, and that you would lay with him and read the paper. That you would run and jump and play along side him, and you would cherish him.

Take heart that he's sleeping at Jesus' feet, and you'll see him again one day.
