My Cousin's Mother

My cousin's mother died several years ago, following a car accident. It was a huge shock for our entire family and we were all devastated. Here is the condolence letter I sent to my cousin.

Dear Mary-Ann,

Please accept my very deepest condolences following the sudden loss of your wonderful mother, and my close friend, Patricia. Words fail to express how much I feel for you at this time. I can't even imagine the pain you must be in, and simply want to let you know that I am here for you. I am still shocked that she is no longer with us.

All I can tell you is that Patricia was an amazingly good person, who made a lasting impression on all of us. Her kindness and generosity touched so many, even people who didn't directly know her. Her work in setting up the local children's charity will continue to make a difference in the lives of thousands of underprivileged children in years to come.

Your mother and I had been close friends throughout childhood, and I think of her as a sister. There is a space in my heart that aches when I think that she is gone.

Please know that I will help you in any way I can, to get through this very difficult time. Please call me if you feel like talking, or to arrange a visit.
