This is the cover letter I used to apply to a summer job through my university. The opening was for an entry level office assistant. The letter was affective and got me an interview.

Dear Mr. John Smith:

I am pleased to respond to your advertisement for a Student Office Assistant as advertised on HuskyJobs. I greatly admire your organization’s goal of collecting information on health systems in order to aid their improvement.

I’m extremely qualified through my experience with computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Through competing in Computer Applications while in the organization Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), I’ve worked with many features in each of these programs. Furthermore, my competitions were timed, so I learned how to be efficient in a timely manner. I can complete an immense amount of work in a short period of time.

In addition to my work with technology, I have experience working in a busy office. I’ve done filing, maintained databases, answered telephones, greeted visitors, and prepared faxes and mailings. I understand how every small task keeps the office running smoothly and aids the success of the organization.

I feel confident in telling you that I am qualified for this position. I am capable of all the duties specific to this job and am ready to work in a high paced position.
Thank you for considering my application and I look forward to meeting with you.

Sincerely,

Jane Doe
