This is the cover letter I used when applying for an Employment Coach position at a community center working with young adults aging out of foster care.

Please accept this letter as intent to apply for the position of Employment Coach at the West End Neighborhood House, my resume follows for your review. I learned of this opportunity in the Wilmington News Journal and was at once very interested.

Upon graduating from the University of Delaware recently with a BA in Sociology concentrating in Social Welfare, I have gained ample educational, professional and personal experiences that will allow me to be an important part of your team. I am deeply committed to the goal of helping others to realize their full potential in all areas of life; and understand very well the importance of assisting young people in reaching a level of self-sufficiency through effective education and employment programs.

Through advocacy, outreach, community and volunteer service; I have thoroughly enjoyed opportunities to serve underrepresented populations in many different capacities. Most relevant would include an internship in which I assisted clients with job searching, resume writing, interview preparedness, etc.

Additionally, I have acquired written and verbal Spanish skills at a moderate level and have experience outside of the educational realm using this ability to assist individuals of all ages in many capacities.

I thoroughly admire the work that the West End Neighborhood House does, and I genuinely hope to have an opportunity to join such an amazing program. I will follow-up next week with an email to see if you agree that I am a qualified candidate for the Employment Coach position.
