Sample Resignation Letters and Templates can help you make quick work of writing your own.
Leaving a job is very emotional and sometimes even confusing, especially if you like the people you work with and love the work you do.
Still, all good things must come to an end...and bad ones, too.
And as you might imagine, there is protocol for resigning the right way and while there are many ways to do it properly, there are at least three things that you should never do. Here they are...
1. Never resign in anger. I supervised an employee who submitted his letter of resignation because he was stressed by his workload, and he didn't have another job lined up. Wow!
2. Never criticize your employer in your resignation letter. Anything less than taking the high road poisons your chances of future employment with that company, as well as with other companies within the same industry.
3. Never quit without giving proper notice. If a future potential employer finds out about you leaving a former employee without notice during the job interview/screening process you can almost bet on the fact that they'll become suddenly disinterested. Why? Because they'll figure that if you can do it to someone else you might do it to them, too.

Instead, do what most resignation sample letters do; go for the neutral, but professional thank you for the opportunity to have worked for you kind of letter. It'll pay dividends in the long run and just might lead you to your dream job.
Dear Mr. Slate:
I have worked for the Slate Granite Company for over twenty years. I have enjoyed working alongside you and have learned a great deal from you and all my fellow workers. So, it is with a sad heart that I have to tender my resignation from the company.
I wish to accept a position with Cogswell Cogs starting two weeks from this coming Monday. Therefore, I am tendering my resignation effective 5PM Friday, October 11, 2013. This will allow two weeks to divide my present tasks among my coworkers, and assist with the transition of those responsibilities to someone else.
Thank you for the trust and faith you put into me and I wish you continued success with the growth of your company.
Best Wishes With Great Appreciation,
