Sneaky Boss

by Jaclynna W.
(Orlando, FL)

After five years of living and breathing my job I decided it was time for a change. I'd been instrumental in bringing the company into the 20th century technologically, as well as having been a contributing factor to the growth of the company.

I asked my boss, with whom I thought I had a friendly, positive relationship, if he would write me a letter of recommendation. He agreed wholeheartedly.

A few days later my boss handed me an envelope saying it was my recommendation. Of course, I went into my office and immediately read the letter.

I was totally shocked to realize it was the polar opposite of what I expected! Every accomplishment was painted as a failure, every strength was interpreted as a flaw.

To top it all off, the last sentence indicated I was NOT eligible for rehire. I just sat there trying to absorb the blow.

Finally, I decided I needed to find out why. I walked into my boss's office and he erupted into gales of laughter!

He thought it was the funniest thing he'd ever done! I guess I thought it was pretty funny after I wrapped my head around it.

Oh, and yes, he did provide the glowing recommendation letter I initially anticipated!
