To Edward...My Love

When I first met you it was on a student night out. I was uncharacteristically shy around you and I was a bumbling fool, even though you steadied me with a genuine smile, which made your eyes twinkle and the skin around your eyes crinkle.

You said hello and politely found me a chair, positioning me next to you which made me feel all tingly with excitement.

You looked really cute in your linen shirt and you started off asking me what I was studying and how I was enjoying the city. I don’t even remember what I said...exactly, but I remember the easy way you laughed at my inane jokes and how you seemed genuinely interested in me and my take on the world.

I don’t believe in love at first sight, but what I felt was close to it. I was nervous - but you put me at ease; you bought me a drink and made me feel calm, happy and at peace.

Now, ten years on, I still feel calmed by your presence...and safe in the knowledge that you will always be there for me. The world can pass me by in your presence, but such is my love for you. It doesn’t matter as long as it is passing us by together.

It is hard to convey just how strong my feelings are for you, but I am sure you know that I care deeply for you. When you feel pain or anguish it hurts me too; I want to help whenever I can.

The beauty of our love is that I know you feel the same and would want to help me. Your eternal faithfulness and honesty make you unique and so very special to me that I cannot and do not want to ever imagine life without you.

Before you my life was lived at a frantic, partying pace. Now that I have met you I realise how dull life was without you in it.
