Your Sister Was A Shining Jewel

A few years ago my best friend passed while traveling in Europe.

I had only met her family members once, and I did not hear of her death until a month after her funeral.

Here is the letter of condolence I wrote to my friend’s sister.

Dear Samantha;

You are in my thoughts and prayers as we all work to understand the untimely death of your sister, [sister's name]. The news came as such a shock, and I know it is something we will never truly be able to accept.

She was my best friend, and I will never forget the conversations we had or her open, caring, creative spirit. She was a true jewel and her talent and the joy she brought to life will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Cheryl was a unique individual with a dazzling combination of talents and skills. Knowing her was a privilege that enriched me, and I am sure that her students and anyone who ever listened to or participated in her music and art feels exactly the same way I do.

I am sorry that I only got to meet you once. I know you are surrounded by caring friends and family. Please remember that if there is ever anything I can do to lighten your sorrow, you are more than welcome to call on me.

Blessings, Grace and Peace to you and yours,
